Outstanding and mesmerizing! Could not put the book down. Not only is it about the bear attack, it is about the human spirit and Johan's ability to overcome these obstacles that life sometimes throws at us. His attitude towards these obstacles is nothing short of amazing. He surely is a role model.
I know the author personally and I have heard the story several times. Yet I was really pleasantly surprised by how the book was packaged, how it captured more than just the accident, and how captivating it was. Also, Avery easy read, whether one is a big reader or not. Highly recommended
This true story is artfully told and is a real "page-turner." The author shares very personal and profound reflections, and lessons gained over time, that are highly motivating and inspiring. The tragic event is relayed through the eye of an optimist who finds meaning, hope, gratitude and love resulting from extreme trauma. I'd recommend this book for anyone struggling to make sense of a life challenge or traumatic event.
Incredible inspirational story of Johan and his daughter. The determination and motivation to survive such a devastating bear attack is described by Johan in a way that you cannot stop reading this book. He uses great analogies and humor. His love for life is so inspirational. The way he describes his recovery is incredible and hid stubbornness to keep doing what he loves to do. This is a must read!
I met Johan at a local bird club, and it was more than year later before I figured out that I'd seen him on TV (When Animals Strike and, more recently, In an Instant) OMG, this is the guy who got attacked by a grizzly bear! My only beef with this book is that it leaves you wanting more. For those of us who know Johan, his optimism, rationality and humanity - coupled with a dry and quirky sense of humor - comes through brilliantly. It's a story of overcoming a very bad situation with sheer willpower and determination. An inspiring tale that may help you when you're going through a difficult time in life.
There were several editing errors where passages were repeated which was distracting otherwise a very brave and positive biography.
Having had the pleasure of meeting Johan on several occasions it was great to read his story. A well written story of a father's love and the desire to do what ever needed to protect his family.
