The reader experiences vicariously the thrill of participation in the competition and training, and more importantly learns spiritual lessons for athletes in the Christian race.
There are parallels in the Christian life with those competing in the Olympics. Training and discipline are as important to the life of the Christian as they are to the Olympic competitor. The Christian trains with spiritual lessons learning exercises for walking by faith, stretching by faith, and practicing the discipline of obeying God's will.
Gregg includes planning strategies for running well with specific instructions all stages of life. Using the scriptures as her source the authors gives instructions on getting equipped for the competition beginning with the attire, or what to wear. She then describes the whole armor of God, prayer as our breathing exercise, and being equipped with spiritual gifts.
Facing workouts, suffering, trials, tests, and reproach are all a part of the preparation for the necessary endurance to finish the race well. At the rewards ceremony of the Olympics trophies are presented made of bronze, silver, and gold. These are temporal. In the Christian Olympics the awards include The Incorruptible Crown, The Crown of Rejoicing, The Crown of Righteousness, The Crown of Life, and the Crown of Glory. These Crowns are eternal.

Gregg makes connections between the athletes competing in the Olympics with our Christian walk and the importance of competing for the prize. As a believer that prayer is to the spirit what exercise is to the body, I resonated with Gregg's way of helping Christians see themselves as players in the Ultimate Olympic game.
Gregg teaches spiritual lessons and offers practical advice in a challenging way with chapters such as The Training and Discipline, The Workout, and The Closing and Rewards Ceremonies.
An interesting read!
Having narrated the book, I can say with authority that I read it probably a lot more carefully than most. I love books that make me think. S.E. Gregg made me think hard about my faith. She revealed things in The Christian Olympics that I never realized. We are all participants in the Great Race. Some are maintaining their easy stride, some are limping along, some barely walking. I think I've been in all three in different times in my life. If you want to get to the finish line with those golden crowns waiting for you, you'll do yourself a big favor by reading this book. It'll challenge you for sure!
This book uses the Olympic games as an example for our life here on earth. Christians are participants in this life not just spectators. You are involved with the battle against evil everyday and in all aspects of your life.
The author, S.E. Gregg, walks you through some battles and gives practical advice on how to handle them. He gives strategies for a healthy marriage and raising children with values.
The rewards for living this life are given at the close of the games. These special crowns the Lord gives us when we get to heaven are all from how we live on this earth.
Throughout the entire book the author uses different Olympic events as examples for your day to day life. Read this book with an open mind and ready to learn heart. You will be encouraged to keep running the race until the games are over!

I read S.E. Gregg's book as I prepare to watch the Summer Olympics from London in a few weeks. Using the Olympic games as the analogy, the author invites all Christians to not just be spectators in the "game of Life" but to be participants, running the race to attain the ultimate prize (the Golden Crown) God wants for each of his children to win.
Filled with practical advice and sound tools to help achieve the goal, I was reminded of a LifeWay Vacation Bible School theme a few years ago that had as its motto "Run, run, run the race...keep, keep, keep the pace...run the race, keep the pace...fix your eyes on Jesus!"
We are in a spiritual competition but it is a marathon, not a sprint towards the finish line. Christians require endurance, (patience) as well as training and discipline to finish well.
It is a practical book, a fast read for the most part, a great little book to add to your library.
