And you may ask yourself, well, how did I get here?
Engineer to Dot-Bomber How Did I Get Here? is a memoir of working in the time before, and leading up to, the dot-com collapse. With stories and remembrances along the author's sometimes-twisty path from aerospace engineer to "web guru," this is a tale that will interest those who lived through, and those who came after, this unique era.
A note from the author
Writing this short book was a fun and collaborative adventure that I think could only have occurred on - and because of - Google+. It started with a one sentence post and an old picture, and through the encouragement and support of G+ friends, blossomed into something a bit larger.
When Alexander Becker suggested we create an ebook out of it, I thought we'd need to do a lot of re-writing and polishing. However, Alexander wisely counseled me to leave it mostly as-is, because the way it unfolded on G+ just felt right. I added a little material at the beginning, but other than that and some formatting, it's as it was originally. And, through the magic of publishing (and Dieter Mueller 's cover) it sure looks better as a book!

Writing this review, I am struggling with "how?".This book unfolded as Brian Titus was writing it and I had the rare privilege of reading it while it was unfolding. At the time, few suspected it would become a book. The publisher, Alexander Becker, did what publishers do: he recognized a good read and made it a book.
I have always been fascinated by writers writing about writing. This is even better: a writer writing a book not even knowing it.
Inside, you will find a story. It is the story of one man who was a young aerospace engineer, went through a lot of unexpected adventures, survived the dot com bubble of 2000 and lived to tell the tale. So, this book is a tale. With supporting evidence: Mr. Titus structured it around scans of documents, milestones on his journey, barely redacted. So, this book is a cautionary tale. I will not spoil it further for you: just read it.
It is also a survival guide.
There may be other bubbles coming. This book teaches how hard work, a fondness for change, curiosity, and simple virtue (with a healthy dose of genius) could be your best umbrella.
"Engineer to Dot-Bomber" is a weather forecast: you must read it. No, there are no how-to's, no instant-powdered-just-add-water millionaires, just very real events. The by-line "How Did I Get here?" is as honest as it gets: Brian Titus is genuinely asking the question, is wondering at the answer, tells you and takes you along for the ride. It is about the ride.
When I was a child, my friends and I would go on all the rides, see the amazing snake man, talk to the fat lady and even get free pop corn at the biggest attractions park in my hometown. Someone would always ask "How come we never pay for anything?" That was my moment:
My great-grandfather built it.
Brian Titus is one of the people who built it, whatever it will turn into. He was there from the start, went through all the rides, and lived to tell the tale in this book. Just read it: I will not spoil it for you.
Still struggling with "How?" to review it.
This is one time when you should judge a book by its cover:
Dieter Mueller captured every single moment of this book with extraordinary elegance and economy. This is the only part I am willing to spoil: The face on the cover could be yours. It could be your great-grandchild's. Read it and decide.
With gratitude to the author, the publisher, and the illustrator for all the wonderful experiences.

Engineer to DotBomber How Did I Get Here? eBook Brian Titus Dieter Mueller Alexander Becker Reviews
This was quite interesting I've been following and interacting with Brian Titus on Google+ and really enjoyed a peep behind the scenes.
However, the book's ending was a bit abrupt I was hungry for more. A sequel would be nice? What's happening in the life of the author today! -)
Brian and I are of the same age, and we've lived similar experiences.
I didn't opt to take the start-up route, preferring stability to promised IPO riches. Reading Brian's
experiences helped me look back at my decision(s) and answer lingering questions.
A quick and light read. If you lived through the dot-com bubble, this is something you'll appreciate.
